GO FOR IT! Program in Boys and Girls Clubs

In 2010, the reach of the GO FOR IT! Program expanded as our curriculum started to be implemented within Boys and Girls Clubs in Colorado and Wyoming, both during the summer and school year sessions.  We continue to work diligently to develop our after-school youth club Seven Keys to Success curriculum in order to impact these future leaders in evermore effective and expanded ways.

The focus for the 2010-11 season was to train and implement the GO FOR IT! Program within 3 pilot clubs in the Denver Metro area and 6 pilot clubs within the Casper, WY area.

After Boys and Girls Club staff members are initially trained in the GO FOR IT! Program, GO FOR IT! (GFI) Program Ambassadors and staff provide continued implementation/tracking support to the clubs throughout the year, and newly hired part-time “GO FOR IT! champion” staff members are being trained and supported to assist greatly in making the GFI Program a success within each pilot club.

The kids in each of the pilot clubs have the opportunity to get exposure to the GO FOR IT! Program through branch specific assembly events, activity rooms and special GFI clubs.  Throughout the summer and school-year seasons, Boys and Girls Club staff introduce and reinforce the GFI vocabulary for empowerment to all club members on an ongoing basis, including the sports programs.

The youth club members who choose to participate in the GO FOR IT! classes have the opportunity to earn the Seven Keys & key chains as well as the coveted gold GO FOR IT! t-shirts upon demonstrating their successful completion of the GFI Program.

The opportunities for parent involvement are emphasized most strongly during a mid-year GFI awareness event and a year-end recognition/celebration event.  At these events, not only are the parents and community members be able to see firsthand what their children have been doing, but a short presentation will also be made to these family members to clearly show the effectiveness of learning and using the Seven Keys to Success.
