Teacher Training Course
The vision of the GO FOR IT! Institute is to provide educators with the training and materials to strengthen their own lives personally and professionally, as well as empower and motivate their students to succeed academically, interpersonally and, later in life, economically. ”Motivating Students to Succeed” is a 32-hour program for teachers, school administrators, and counselors seeking certification to become trainers of the GO FOR IT! Program.
From 2004 to 2007 the GO FOR IT! Institute staff delivered the GO FOR IT! Student Program to urban schools, teaching all students from grades three to eight in their classrooms over a seven to fourteen week period. It was a challenge to find financial and classroom resources.
Teachers offered us the perfect strategy for overcoming both of these challenges. They overwhelmingly urged us to train them so they could incorporate the Seven Keys to Success within their curriculum.
Our Train-the-Teacher strategy provides a greater distribution of the GO FOR IT! Program to students and educators. “Motivating Students to Succeed” is offered by the GO FOR IT! Institute through cooperation with the Adams State College Extended Studies Department. Teachers who complete the course are eligible for two graduate-level continuing education credits.
The successful outcomes of the GO FOR IT! Train-the-Teacher Program are that:
- Teachers are energized and inspired in ways to help students achieve their highest potential
- Teachers integrate the development of GO FOR IT! skills into the classroom curriculum
- Students learn the process of how to succeed and can demonstrate their acquisition of the GO FOR IT! skills
- Schools develop a positive atmosphere with confident and motivated students
Immersion School Programs
School administrators and classroom teachers agree that an immersion environment is the most effective way for students and educators to master the Seven Keys to Success and incorporate them into their personal and academic lives. In a GO FOR IT! Immersion School, all teachers and support staff, as well as parents and members of the community, learn the Seven Keys to Success so they are able to reinforce positive behavior and support the development of motivated and successful students as they become leaders, problem solvers, goal oriented employees, and empowered citizens.
The GO FOR IT! Immersion School Program focuses primarily on ECE-8 students and is implemented particularly in inner-city districts. It consists of the Seven Keys to Success core material, student workbook, activities, skill building assignments for each key, plus teacher and parent information. Students demonstrating each skill are awarded a key to celebrate their achievement, and a gold shirt if they earn all seven keys. The basic curriculum is paced to be delivered in the classroom during the school day and throughout the school year. Ongoing program development continues to improve the program and create grade-level and cultural modifications.
Presently, the GFI Program is operating within 14 elementary and K-8 schools. Six of these schools are located outside the Denver Metro area including Fort Collins, Colorado and Casper, Wyoming.
